“This Life Is Driving Me Crazy” is a song written by Greg Kocis around 2020. The song began as a simple songwriting idea and has since evolved through different production experiments, including AI-performed versions created with Suno.
The Original Song
The original idea for “This Life Is Driving Me Crazy” was fairly simple. The song started with a verse and chorus, built around the central line “This life is driving me crazy.”
The original lyrics were not intended to tell a complicated story. Sometimes a song starts with a particular thought, phrase, or feeling, and the goal is simply to follow that idea and see where it leads. This was one of those songs.
An earlier version of the chorus used the idea of “the waiting is driving me crazy,” but Greg ultimately decided that “This life is driving me crazy” worked better as the central thought of the song.
The bridge was added later. It developed around the idea of waiting for someone and wondering where they were going to meet and what they were going to do.
Comparing Suno V6, V5.5, and the Original Demo
For this Song Story episode, Greg took a different approach by using the song to test Suno’s newer V6 model.
Instead of simply presenting an AI recreation of the song, he compared three different versions: the original production demo, an earlier Suno V5.5 version, and a new Suno V6 version.
The Suno V6 test used a cover of the original song. Before generating the new version, Greg checked and corrected some of the lyrics because AI-generated performances can sometimes alter or misinterpret words.
He experimented with Suno V6 Pro and adjusted settings including audio influence, style influence, weirdness, and the female vocal option used to approximate the vocal approach of the earlier version.
When he first heard the V6 result, Greg did not feel that it was an improvement over the V5.5 version he had previously created. In particular, he preferred the overall vibe and production style of the V5.5 version.
That does not necessarily mean that Suno V5.5 is better than Suno V6 overall. Greg had only begun exploring V6 and did not consider this one experiment enough to make a definitive judgment about the two models.
Experimenting With Suno V6 Wild
Greg also tested Suno V6’s Wild mode for the first time during the episode.
The experiment involved creating what he described as a “cover of a cover,” using the previous version while retaining its general style settings.
The Wild version produced some unusual results. Although the basic melodies remained recognizable, some vocal phrasing shifted by roughly half a beat or a beat. The AI also changed some of the lyric phrasing.
This made the performance more unpredictable than the standard V6 version. Greg also noticed another incorrect lyric during the experiment.
The result demonstrated one of the differences between a more controlled generation and a setting designed to introduce more variation into the performance.
Developing the Final Production
The V5.5 version that Greg preferred was closer to a chill, lo-fi production. Some of the glitch effects were intentionally added as an experiment between vocal phrases.
For a future final production, Greg sees the song potentially working in more than one direction. A chill version could preserve the relaxed character of the existing production, while a more upbeat version could provide a different interpretation of the same song.
The song therefore remains an evolving production rather than a finished recording. The underlying songwriting remains the same while different performances, arrangements, and production approaches provide new ways to hear it.
Part of the Songs by Greg Official Bootleg Series
“This Life Is Driving Me Crazy” is also part of the Songs by Greg Official Bootleg project.
The Official Bootleg series presents Greg’s original songs through AI-performed recreations and alternate versions. The songs are written by Greg, while AI is used as a performer and production tool to explore different interpretations of the original material.
This approach allows older songwriting ideas and production demos to be revisited without treating the AI version as the original composition.
